The Museum of Macedonia, located under the Skopje Fortress, is a museum institution composed of several departments: Ethnological Department, Historical Department and Department of Art.
The main activities of the museum are the research, collection, documentation, presentation and publication of museum material in the respective areas. Within the museum there are also the Conservation Laboratory, the education sector, as well as the marketing department, whose activities are the production and sale of commercial copies of the most important museum exhibits.
The historical setting represents the spiritual, cultural and political history of the Ottoman period, the end of the Second World War and the postwar period. Within the historical exhibition, the permanent exhibition "Macedonians Refugees from the Second World War and the Civil War in Greece" was presented.
The Icon Gallery presents the most important icons, iconostasis and frescoes from the Byzantine period and the period of revival. Which currently it is under reconstruction.
The ethnographic department presents the thematic units of: folk costumes and jewelry, traditional architecture, customs, musical instruments, folk fabrics and household furniture, as well as crafts and folk economy.
